At the CENTQUATRE-PARIS, artists are welcomed at different steps of their projects, following different rhythms and various options.
Experimentation residencies
Area : all artistic disciplines (theater, dance, circus, music, visual arts, etc.)
The CENTQUATRE-PARIS makes its manufacturing and production resources available to established as well as up-and-coming artists through its residency programs. The Experimentation residencies are intended for professional artists of all disciplines, from all over the world. The residency is also available to French and international art schools. When the artists’ applications are approved, the artists are given a space (workshop or production office), for one to three weeks. According to the spaces’ capacity, a technical equipment kit is put at the disposal of the team participating in the Experimentation residency.
If you would like to participate in this residency, first you must fill-out the application.
Applications for residencies for the 2024/2025 season are open throughout the year. Given the number of applications received, please anticipate your desired residency periods at least 8 months in advance. We will respond within one to two months after the online application has been submitted.
The Urban culture laboratory
Area: urban culture and public space (dance and urban music, slam, street-art, etc.)
Since opening, the CENTQUATRE-PARIS has been committed to the growth and development of urban cultures. The CENTQUATRE-PARIS offers all visitors the possibility to practice any living art in its open-spaces. Visitors freely use the space to create their own stages, continuously redefining our open spaces.
Since 2015, the CENTQUATRE-PARIS has hosted a laboratory dedicated to artistic creation in the multidisciplinary field of urban culture and its interactions with public spaces. This laboratory can accommodate around fifteen artists and troupes per year.
The lab is intended for independent artists, collectives, troupes and organizations, coming from all of urban culture’s artistic disciplines and all geographical horizons.
After their application is granted, the artists get access to a work space at the CENTQUATRE-PARIS for a research and creation residency for a fixed period of 50 hours and - if needed - they get technical or artistic support. The research must question the notion of public space, its origin, its practical aspects, its form or its representation.
Support residencies
Area : all artistic disciplines (theater, dance, circus, music, visual arts, etc.)
As part of its mission to nurture professional and artistic projects, the CENTQUATRE-PARIS provides additional support to artists from all disciplines, whether they are confirmed artists or up-and-coming, following their journey with interest and curiosity.
On a case-by-case basis, the artists may be given the opportunity to publicly present a part of their ongoing work during their residencies. These presentations happen as a part of an event called "C'LE CHANTIER", which is often hosted during the CENTQUATRE-PARIS festivals. The aim of "C'LE CHANTIER" is to enhance the project’s visibility and encourage its distribution. Subject to availability and depending on the technical capabilities of the spaces, we can make equipment available upon the artist’s request and needs.
Area : music
D’Tour is the branch of our support residencies specifically geared towards musicians and their collaborators. This program supports artistic and musical discovery and innovation while attempting to reinvent the creation process, the stage space and the role of the public, encouraging artists to rethink how they present their musical work.

Showcase residencies
Area : all artistic disciplines (theater, dance, circus, music, visual arts, etc.)
Through their showcase residencies, the CENTQUATRE-PARIS helps projects by committing to showcase the artists’ work following the residency as well as offering additional technical support and resources. With the distribution of the artworks in mind, the showcase residencies often fall under programs established with partner structures in France or abroad and / or are directed to artists that are programmed at the CENTQUATRE-PARIS.
